Become a TEKSHAQQ Digital Ambassador

What is a Digital Ambassador?

Three diverse professionals smiling and holding digital devices—two tablets and a smartphone—posed in a modern workspace setting
In the context of our work, Digital Ambassadors:
  • Are everyday people.
  • Are digitally active – they regularly use computers and the internet in their daily lives, and/or
  • Are people who work in roles that require the use of digital technologies, and
  • Are happy to share their digital experiences to inspire others.

What do our Digital Ambassadors do?

We will need you to do the following:

1. Answer some questions about the work you do, how you came to be doing it, the journey it took you to get where you are now and any advice you might have for those aspiring towards digital careers. And/or how you use ‘digital’ in your everyday life. You will only need to answer these questions at the start of the programme because we will record your responses in audio, video and/ or written format to share in our programmes, resources and events. You can choose how you would like to participate – via audio, video or written responses.

2. Grant us permission to use your recorded responses, whether in audio, video, audio-visual, written or other formats, to inspire our participants to learn digital skills and/or consider digital careers and to promote digital careers.

3. Optional: Grant us permission to use your image/photograph if you choose to share this alongside your recorded responses. If you choose to participate in this way, your image/photograph/recording may be used in our social media posts, in our resources and in our communications for the purposes mentioned above. You will have the opportunity to review and approve the content we use and to withdraw your consent, whereupon we will cease using your content.

This is the extent of your involvement in the programme, sharing your inspirational story. You will not be required to attend in person events or programmes unless you wish to. You can choose to participate in whichever way(s) you find comfortable. You can withdraw from the programme at any time by contacting us on our Contact Us page. If you choose to withdraw, we will cease using your information and delete it.

Is this a paid role?

No, this is a volunteer role. We do not charge our hosts or participants in the D.A.P and the programme will be supported by our other products and services. We invite you to join our team as a D.A. if you align with our social mission and ethos and would like to give back in this way.

Programme overview

This programme involves social media, school-based and community-based campaigns to our target demographics encouraging them to learn or develop their digital skills and to consider jobs in the digital industry.

We do not aim to coerce people into digital skills training or digital careers. Rather, we aim to increase representation to digitally marginalised groups of people so that they can see people like themselves developing and using digital skills and working in digital jobs and thereby see that this is possible for them too. In hearing your career story and seeing another person like themselves ‘doing digital,’ you become a bridge for anyone interested in exploring these possibilities.

Who are we looking for as Digital Ambassadors?

Anyone can be a D.A. if your daily life or work largely involves the use of digital technologies such as computer hardware and software or the internet. For example, in accessing and using information (e.g. for booking appointments, train or flight tickets, for comparing products and buying things online or for doing your job), in creating and sending documents (e.g. emails, CVs, presentations, invoices), in making transactions (e.g. signing up for a course or completing a medical assessment) or in analysing information and sharing the findings (e.g. as a blogger, journalist or researcher). Many jobs today include such functions and so do the daily lives of many of us. Therefore, again, almost anyone could be a D.A.

We are especially looking for people who:

  • Have come from low socioeconomic backgrounds (i.e. low income, financial hardship or poverty)
  • Have ever been homeless
  • Have disabilities or health challenges
  • Are from ethnically minoritised backgrounds
  • Are immigrants
  • Are former prisoners
  • Are abuse survivors
  • Are single parents or
  • Are over 30 years of age

These are the demographics our participants come from so we would love to hear from people who share their experiences. Remember, we are looking to show them people like themselves who are digitally active in their work and/or personal lives.

So, what do you say?
